The first Colombian to play in English football, 'Tino'has produced moments
of magic, especially at the end of last season, and is clearly accustoming
himself to the English game. A £7.5m club record signing at the time
United bought him from Parma of Italy in February 1996, Tino is also a
regular for his country and has close on 40 caps. He began his career with
Cucuta Deportivo in 1989 before a three-year spell with Nacional, during
which spell he was voted 1991 Colombian Player of the Year - the same year
that Nacional won the Colombian League. A £3m move to Parma in 1992
thrust him firmly into the European spotlight, and in four years in Italy
he won a European Cup Winners' medal, a UEFA Cup Winner's medal, and an
Italian Cup Winner's and runners-up medal.
